A different week, every week.
The planner mixes strength, cardio, play, mobility and adventure days, steers away from what you did lately, and only suggests what your gear, places and health allow.

Variety engine
Plans a balanced week, avoids repeats, and explains “why today”. Reroll a day, swap a quest, or remix the whole week. If it notices you’re bored, it shakes things up.
Your gear and places
Dumbbells, kettlebells, bands, a park, a pool, a court — tell it what you have. A “never suggest” list hides activities you dislike, and a free-only filter shows what costs nothing.
Workout player
Sets, reps, weight, rest and hold timers, last session’s numbers inline, personal records and gentle progression hints. Supersets, circuits, swap or skip mid-workout, and resume later.
Exercise library
A searchable library with filters and favorites, demo art for many moves, custom exercises and custom routines with “repeat last”.
Programs
Multi-week programs such as Walk to Run, Strength Foundations, Mobility Reset, 5K to 10K, Balance & Falls Prevention, Swim Starter, Seated Strength and Kettlebell Basics.
Travel mode
Hotel-room and no-gear quests for a set number of days, then your normal plan comes back.
Play counts
Log a hike, a pickleball game or a dance class and it counts toward your week. First-time activities come with a short beginner guide.
Progress
Strength charts, weekly sets per muscle, training load, category balance, an activity calendar and a WHO guideline tracker — each with a plain-language “what does this mean?”.
Your training arc, as a story.
Every session is a quest. XP levels up a hero you chose, and the world opens up as you go.

Six classes
Warrior, Shinobi, Spellblade, Ranger, Street Brawler and Paladin — each in men’s, women’s and androgynous versions. Change your class later without losing progress.
Evolution
Five tiers — Novice, Adept, Veteran, Champion, Legend — each with a new look. Checkpoints, not countdowns: there’s no deadline to fail.
Quests
Daily quests, mystery quests, weekly themes, monthly solo challenges and a bonus XP weekend each month.
Weekly boss
Hit the WHO weekly activity targets and you beat the boss. The guideline year view shows which weeks you won.
Story arcs
Fifteen story chapters across five arcs, from the Awakening Arc to the Legend Arc, each with objectives, XP and read-aloud narration.
Loot and achievements
A daily chest, equippable loot, titles you can display, hidden achievements and lifetime milestone badges.
Kind to your head, not just your body.
Most fitness apps punish a missed day. Shonen is designed to get you back the next day instead.

Show-up plan
Decide when and where you’ll train (“6 PM, after work, at home”). It sits on Home with a reminder, next to your “why I train” statement.
Never miss twice
One missed day is normal. You get a kind nudge for the next day — never guilt, and a shame-free message after a missed week.
2-minute start
Start any quest for just two minutes. If you stop there, it still counts for your streak.
Habit stacking
Tie a tiny habit to something you already do — “after I make coffee, 5 squats” — and track daily habits with XP.
Check-ins and reflection
Mood, sleep, stress and symptoms in seconds. An evening “what went well?” with a gratitude line, a wins log, and mood before and after each session.
Calm and body-neutral modes
Calm mode drops countdown beeps and pressure. Body-neutral mode hides weight, photos and body-shape prompts. An eating-disorder-safe mode also hides calories and the food log.
Plans that respect your body.
Rules come from public guidelines (WHO, ACSM, NICE and others). Shonen gives general fitness guidance; it isn’t medical advice.

50+ conditions
From back pain, asthma and diabetes to pregnancy, long COVID and common medicines. Every quest adapts, with medication-aware cautions (for example, effort instead of heart rate on beta blockers).
PAR-Q+ health check
A short screening before you start, with a nudge to see a professional if anything is flagged.
Flare-ups and sick days
Flare-up mode for a gentle week, a pain body map and trend, sick days that protect your streak, and pacing support with a next-day crash check for ME/CFS and long COVID.
Clinician summary
An 8-week summary of activity, pain, sleep and mood you can share before an appointment.
Safety first
Stop signs on every quest, heat and cold tips outdoors, a too-much-too-soon warning, and crisis resources when a check-in shows a hard day.
Fuel, without the obsession.
An optional food log that stays out of the way — and disappears completely in eating-disorder-safe mode.
Barcode and search
Scan a barcode or search Open Food Facts, with servings, daily macros, Nutri-Score and allergen warnings.
Your own meals
Manual meals, saved meals, custom foods, a recipe builder with servings, recents, quick add and “copy yesterday”.
Simple goals
Fiber, five-a-day fruit and veg portions, and diet preferences such as vegetarian, vegan, halal and kosher.
Handy tools, in one place.
Rep pacer
Counts each rep or hold aloud on a steady beat — in the Toolkit and inside the workout player.
Timers
Interval timer with presets and custom rounds, spoken cues, plus rest and hold timers in every workout.
Guided breathing
Short breathing sessions for calm before bed or after a hard day.
Calculators
Heart-rate zones, one-rep max, plates, warm-up sets and fluids.
Learn
Bite-size lessons with quizzes — sleep, pain science, soreness vs. injury, menopause, postpartum return and more.
Fitness Trials
Baseline fitness tests you retake every 4 weeks, with XP for showing up and for improving.
